Bringing Your Bike on TriMet

Photo of cyclist waving to bus operatorYou can bring your bike with you on buses, MAX and Portland Streetcar. No permit is required. Just store your bike in one of the designated spaces. These spaces are often full during rush hour, especially when the weather is nice. In order to avoid having to wait for a train or bus with space for your bike, try to make your trip before or after rush hour. Alternately, consider using a folding bike, which can fit more readily on board trains and buses.

Before you go, you'll need to know:

Which bikes are allowed

  • Only single seat, two-wheeled bikes and recumbents the size of a standard bike are welcome on TriMet.
  • Tandems and bikes with oversized wheels, three or more wheels, trailers or those powered by internal-combustion engines cannot be accommodated. Electric bikes with a sealed battery compartment are permitted.
  • Some bikes have wheels that are too large or too far apart to fit in TriMet's racks.
  • Bikes with child seats or accessories that block an operator's vision out the front of a bus are not allowed.

How to load your bike

Bike parking

Bike lockers are a great option for bike commuters during rush hour when trains and buses are crowded. You can securely park your bike in a locker at MAX Blue, Red and Yellow line stations, Park & Ride lots and transit centers. More.
