Lane striping on the Portland Mall

September 20-October 3

Parking removed on Mall during striping work

Parking on 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland will be removed for two weeks starting Saturday, Sept. 20 for work on the Portland Mall Light Rail project. Crews will close traffic on 5th and 6th avenues a few blocks at a time to stripe the traffic lane. Parking will be restored in phases as work progresses. All work is expected to be complete by Saturday, Oct. 3.

The work is weather dependent, requiring clean, dry streets and temperatures over 50 degrees. Schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.

Parking

  • On-street parking will be removed on both sides of 5th and 6th avenues starting Saturday, Sept. 20 through Oct. 3.
  • Parking will be restored with a phased approach as striping progresses down 5th and 6th avenues.
  • Parking is prohibited in posted areas during this work and vehicles will be towed if they’re parked in areas with "no parking" signs.

Traffic

Flaggers will direct traffic around the work while striping is in progress and material is curing.

About the project

TriMet's fifth MAX line will add 8.3-miles of light rail between Gateway Transit Center and Clackamas Town Center, and to 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland between Union Station and Portland State University (PSU). It is the first light rail extension into Clackamas County. It will serve the heart of downtown Portland and the busiest transit destination in the TriMet system - PSU. When it opens in September 2009, it will help revitalize the Mall and poise the region for future rail extensions.
